Thurs 29 Mar 2012 – PNW Migration Update

Local conditions continue to thwart nocturnal migrants.  A large low pressure system off the coast continues to bring rain and lots off it.  From the looks of things and the long range forecast this pattern will continue through the weekend.

Nationally, the birds are following the wind.  Along the gulf coast and up the central and Mississippi flyways where favorable conditions exist the birds are on the move with  FL, GA and SC having the highest densities.

New today is a really cool Wind Map.  The static screen grab doesn’t do this project justice. Check out the web site for the full animation.  Really remarkable work from Fernanda Viegas and Martin Wattenberg.  Link can also be found on the side bar.
